Netflix has officially greenlit an eight-episode,
live-action Scooby-Doo series that will explore the origin story of the
beloved Mystery Inc. gang. Netflix has a new live-action Scooby Doo
series in the works, with filming scheduled to begin this fall as per Variety. The show will dig
into how the group first teamed up, with a story set during their final summer
at camp. The plot will center on a mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy,
which may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. The series is described
as a modern reimagining, promising to offer a fresh perspective on the iconic
characters and their first adventures.
The new series boasts an impressive creative team, with a
script from Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who will also serve as
showrunners. Greg Berlanti will executive produce through Berlanti Productions,
and Warner Bros. Television will produce the show. In a press release, Peter
Friedlander of Netflix expressed excitement about bringing the franchise to a
live-action series for the first time, emphasizing its rich themes of
friendship and its undeniable impact on pop culture. As per Friedlander new

brought the gang to life on the big screen.
A history of live-action adaptations of Scooby Doo
This upcoming Netflix series is not the first time the
Mystery Inc. gang has been brought to life on screen. Most notably, the 2002
film Scooby-Doo and its 2004 sequel, Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed,
featured a cast that included Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar,
Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardellini. Both films were box-office successes,
grossing over $250 million and $180 million worldwide, respectively. The
franchise also saw two live-action TV films, Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins
and its sequel, released in 2009 and 2010, further expand the live-action
canon.
